Confluence integration question

We just set up the Confluence integration. Each user has to connect it to their account, leading to an inconsistent experience for the user. Is it possible to automate this on the backend?

Thanks,

Shannon

Hi Shannon. In terms of automating the user connection, no, this cannot be done without the individual user's consent. Common industry practice with APIs is such that admins cannot connect on behalf of individuals.

However, once the integration is set up at the app level, users will be continuously reminded and prompted to connect their Confluence accounts when they search in Simpplr.

  • Thanks, Matthew. I appreciate the quick response!

Our CTO assumed that since our company uses the same SSO method for our employees to access both Simpplr and Confluence, each user shouldn't need to connect the systems themselves.

  • Hi Shannon. SSO logins differ from 3rd party API connections because they only provide identity attributes, not permissions and access to other applications. Individual user connections are required for actually interacting with the app inside Simpplr. It is what gets Simpplr a token to act on the behalf of the user to query the Atlassian instance. The same can be said for all our integrations. When Simpplr calls Confluence, we call with a given user's authentication so that only space/pages/etc they have access to are available. This couldn't be done via an admin user providing connection to all users, otherwise it would introduce security risks.
