How do I enable or disable content feed posts for a site?

This has to be done by Site managers or App managers.

Note:

In order to enable feed posts, App managers must first ensure Timeline and comments on content or Timeline, comments on content and feed posts is enabled at the application level. To do this, go to Manage > Manage application > Governance and check the circle next to Timeline and comments on content or Timeline, comments on content and feed posts. Then scroll down and click Save.

To enable or disable feed posts for all the content for a site:

  1. Click on your profile image in the upper right hand corner and go to Manage > Manage sites.
  2. Select the site you want to change settings for. Note you can also go directly to the site and click Manage site

App managers, to enable or disable content feed posts at the application level:

  1. From your user profile image, go to Manage > Manage application.
  2. From the Setup tab, go to Governance and scroll down until you see Content feed posts.

  3. Check or uncheck the Allow Feed Posts on content box to enable or disable posts. Disabling this setting will remove the Allow feed posts option when creating content. This means users will not be able to add feed post comments to any content on this site. The recommended best practice is to leave this box checked and let Site managers control feed post settings at the site level.

Once you've made your changes, scroll down and click Save.

  • Can we allow users to comment on content, but not allow them to post to the site feed? For example, we have a site in which we want only site managers to be able to post to the feed, but still allow all users to comment on news and knowledge base content.

  • Hey Kelly. Yes. In Manage site, if you set Feed permissions to "Only site owner and site managers..." then scroll down and choose "Enabled" for Content posts, users will still be able to comment on content, but won't be able to make feed posts on the dashboard.

  • For clarification, when permissions are set as such, Matthew Rawls, where does that content employees comment on show up? In the dashboard feed -- though others won't be able to comment on it?

  • Hi Rob. I'm not sure I understand your question. Could you elaborate on the permissions configuration you're asking about?

  • Matthew Rawls, if the Feed permissions are set to only site owners and site managers but employees are able to comment on content but not make feed posts on the dashboard when comments are published where do those comments appear? On the content page, on the dashboard feed?

  • Ah, okay! So if you have feed posts on your site limited to owners and managers, because of that, users shouldn't be able to comment on content. This is because content comments are still considered part of feed. So in your Site management settings, even if you have Content posts enabled for everyone, the setting "Feed permissions" configured to only Site owners and managers will render it moot. The image below gives a better idea. But to answer your original question, in this case, if the Site manager comments on content, it will appear on both the content itself and the site feed for all members. It's a pretty confusing setting, and I needed to go test it myself to confirm. I have a ticket open with our Product team to look into this and possibly change it.
